MEDIA - TAPES
Mary Krost & Associates proudly announces the release of a new media program, Ergonomics and Injury Prevention Customized to the Wastewater Worker.
Far more than just a video presentation, the program includes two separate 60-minute long videotapes and numerous value added items. Featured on the tapes is Mary's Ergonomics and Injury Prevention Seminar, which she presents to a group of wastewater workers. In clear, precise language, and with the delivery and presence of a seasoned speaker, Mary provides essential information on preventing back injuries in the wastewater facility workplace. She interacts with the group as well as with individuals, asking and answering questions, coaching and performing demonstrations, and leading exercises custom designed to address lift tasks and job-specific tools and equipment found within the wastewater environment, with the aim of creating a hazard free workplace.
The first sixty-minute tape covers Collections and the second covers Maintenance and Operations -- as well as a detailed, reproducible guidebook, full-color laminated instructional poster, convenient storage and carrying case, and optional on-site hazard analysis, coaching, and ongoing follow-up.
Collaborating with the risk manager of a professional association which represents more than 60 wastewater agencies across California, Mary conducted extensive field visits to these wastewater facilities, observing and interacting, then videotaping workers performing their tasks, applying her years of professional ergonomics experience. Clips of these workers' activities are interspersed throughout the tapes, along with numerous other clips, graphs, props, voice-overs, and other enhancements. A professional video production company was engaged for this project, ensuring that lighting, audio, videography, and duplication are of consistently high quality.
Starting with a segment covering the anatomy and biomechanics of the back, Mary then demonstrates the critical importance of the locked spine technique to protect the back while lifting. She explains and shows the safe ways to perform lifting, lowering, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and reaching, Alternate techniques are offered to address unusual lifting challenges. A review of the specific muscles that protect the back puts these tasks into complete focus. Physical fitness is, of course, linked to exercise, and Mary now demonstrates various exercises that can be done while safeguarding the back. The tapes encompass all a wastewater worker needs to know to form habits that will enable him or her to prevent back injury. (In fact, the tapes will be useful to anyone interested in learning ergonomic and body mechanics principles and techniques.)
